Review on MANIC PANIC Pastelizer Pastel Color by Jessica Brown

Learn from my mistakes!

Let me start by saying that I am new to the hair coloring game. I started out in the salon; I've been going blonde for a few years. Usually my colorist does the same variation - highlights and/or a single process. When I went this time I was a little bored with this routine. During the consultation I asked her about it and we talked about switching to lavender, which we talked about for a while now and then. I have decided! She used a combination of Manic Panic's Purple Haze, conditioner, blue toner and hair magic. She did my hair and she looked freaking amazing, sort of like a mermaid princess. It was wonderful! But then. I washed it! It immediately turned into some sort of faded pink-purple nondescript rough color. So I decided to go to Sally's and buy paint and touch up the houses. I went and asked an extremely unhelpful member of staff for advice. I also bought Purple Haze, some conditioner, a mixing bowl and a paint brush. I also have another purple color; I don't remember the exact brand, but it's argan oil. I came home, mixed the colors and applied them (much more difficult process than it looks in the salon). I let it stand for 20 minutes; THAT'S IT! Rinse it out and my hair is a DEEP violet purple with red undertones. WOA! I wrote to my colorist and asked her to forgive me and tell me what I did wrong. She forgave me and explained that I hadn't applied enough conditioner and that the color in the bowl was about the same as the color on my head. I liked the purple color so I didn't do anything right away and tried another argan oil dye with almost the same results. Then it began to fade, turning into the same mottled pink-purple mush. So I went to Revain and bought Manic Panic Mixer/Pastel-izer and Manic Panic Amplified UV Hair Dye. I didn't mess around anymore; I wanted to make sure I got the purple pastel I was looking for. I mixed them following my colorist's advice. I left it on for about half an hour and then washed off the color, washed with shampoo and applied conditioner. The new color was great, definitely a cool purple with a more bluish undertone that I was interested/looking for. Pastel for Manic Panic did exactly what it was supposed to do. That being said I think the air conditioning does the same and is probably more beneficial. If you have the money buy a pastelizer, if not I wouldn't worry about it at all. It may not be necessary, but it's nice to have. Hope this long story helps - haha. Let me know if you have any questions about the Manic Panic dyes as I did quite a bit of research trying to figure out how to keep my hair color purple. '
