Sony Cybershot S700 7.2MP digital camera with 3x optical zoom Here are my impressions of these cameras. I've never had a digital camera. I just wanted to point and shoot to take pictures for Ebay. I don't care about frills. I just want to do what takes a point and a shot. I want to unpack it and take pictures. There are many things to like about this camera. I've dropped it twice from 3ft onto a wooden floor and sustained no damage so it's durable. The buttons aren't very intuitive, but the instructions are easy to read and understand. Easy to download and use the included editing software. What I particularly like is that when you plug the USB cable into the camera, the editing program automatically appears and asks if you want to upload. Very convenient! Someone mentioned that it's easy to accidentally delete photos. No, that is not so. You must first press the disp key, then the delete key, then tab up to highlight delete, and then press enter. It would be very difficult to accidentally delete a snapshot. This camera has a few downsides. First, the USB protective case is made of very thin rubber and it's only a matter of time before it breaks. Little is available for camera editing. You can rotate, resize or reduce red-eye, but that's about it. The included software lets you do this too, but just has a few extra editing tricks. You can adjust brightness, sharpness, tone or crop. There is an automatic feature that is somewhat useful. If you're serious about making your photos look their best, you need a professional program. Here are my biggest dislikes, which is why I'm giving it 3 stars. A camera should take good pictures, right? Well it works, but only if you have the surgeon's hands. This camera does not have an image stabilizer. My hand trembles a bit and that's why most of my photos are blurry. I thought a tripod would help but the tripod mount is on the left side. This makes the camera easy to knock over during use, causing mine to fall twice. It has to be in the middle. The shutter button must be pressed halfway to focus and then fully capture the image. This requires too much pressure, which in turn makes it difficult to get a clear shot when your finger moves the camera. A low ISO is useless for close-ups. The photos were dark and grainy. This would only be good for distant shots where the flash doesn't work. I will trade this camera for a camera with image stabilization. Given that even most entry-level cameras have this these days, I'd say the DSC700 is seriously outdated. If, like me, you have steady hands and can buy very cheaply, then this is a good entry-level camera. But unless you have the hands of a surgeon I would look elsewhere.
