I found a way to greatly reduce the ticking.

The watch I received is beautiful, well made and works great. Other reviews mention the eye-catching dial, but my watch looks understated, beautiful, and understated. But the ticking is too loud. Clocks seem designed to maximize ticking. The thin, hard parts of the watch contain a lot of air space, like an acoustic guitar, and they are intimately connected to the source of the sound, the little box that moves the watch hand. Around the small box is a round structure with a hole for the clock to be hung on a nail in the wall. I poured BB into the hole until the circular structure was filled with BB, then stuck a small twisted piece into the hole to keep the BBs from flying out. If I'm more than 3 feet from the clock I can't hear it ticking at all. The weight (actually mass) of the BB seems to absorb the vibrations that cause the ticking.
