Good idea, bad execution

Good idea, bad execution. I finally used this for the first time last weekend and won't be doing it again unless I can somehow tweak it to keep it in place. What I didn't see until I started having problems is that there is a large open slot on the left where the strap hooks (see photo). I assume the strap can be replaced with this, but due to the position of the strap and the oversized slot, the strap will pop out as soon as you move your foot even a little bit. I tried tightening it, loosening it etc but I couldn't get the plane out of the parking lot without fumbling with it at least 5 times because the strap slipped through the slot and it all fell apart. I'm a pilot and don't have big feet so I didn't tighten my belt and couldn't find any custom bugs; my passenger even took it away from me and tried to play with it, but to no avail. I finally gave up and wrote in a notepad on ForeFlight when I received the air traffic controller's instructions to land that day. The promotional photo also shows a well-stacked pencil in a strap, and I can tell you, you can't get a pencil in this thing. The information printed on the board is a good guide which is why I chose these knee pads to start with, but if it falls on the ground it's still useless.
