After playing around for a while and hitting the limits of my entry level kit lens (AF-P DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5), I decided to enter the world of luminous primes (as recommended for the second steps in the DSLR world). I have nothing to compare to expect a complete lens (and loads of online reviews) and indeed this lens makes an improvement. It might not be a "shut up and take my money" case, but I'm in the target audience for this lens and I'm happy with it. Shot sharpness at 2.5f and above, a little bland below but never bad. I don't need to increase the ISO that much, so sharpness comes at the expense of grain reduction. The focus is good and fast enough. The bokeh is amazing. The only drawback compared to the super quiet AP-P kit. This YONGNUO is very loud, luckily I don't use my DSLR for video, otherwise it can be a hindrance since the D-3400 I own doesn't have an external microphone input, so it records all lens noise. I would highly recommend this lens to any DSLR newbie who decides to get a second lens and can't or won't buy a used 50mm Nikkor (there aren't many of these in the country I live in and they are sold for almost sold at the same price). like this one). Just make sure you do lots of sessions with the 50mm kit lens so you know you need a prime that scales with your feet.
