Replaced a lamp among the fluorescent lights in the closet. Contrary to many comments (and the instructions that accompany the bulbs) the bulbs work even though the light has a ballast without changing the wiring. Not surprising when you consider that the purpose of a ballast is to limit the current when fluorescent lights ignite, and LED bulbs draw very little current initially. I suspect the light isn't as efficient this way, but I get at least as much light from each LED as I would from a fluorescent bulb, so it's not a problem. The objection I have to the design is that the lamp is directional as opposed to fluorescent: half of the lamp is shielded. In my setup, due to the position of the pens relative to the screen, the light is aimed sideways at the counter instead of down.
