My 9 year old daughter uses it but I've seen it work. It's very bright, but not so bright that it bothers others when she's using it, and it's perfect for her books and tablet. It even fits in her thicker books like Harry Potter and she loves the girly designs on it. Very happy with it, especially considering the price. EDIT: 1 month later and it's broken. I'm not sure what happened, but the top part with the light separated from the middle and the inner wires broke. My daughter was very careful with it and is now very disappointed. I took off a star as this product is clearly not very durable and I expected it to last more than a month.
