Although designed to teach children to count and recognize colors, they can also be interesting as simple toys in their own right. My 3 year old granddaughter loves counting, arranging apples and figuring out which part goes with which; while the youngest of 19 months (with visual impairment and high tactile sensitivity) enjoys the brightness of the colors and the suppleness of the toy. Both kids were entertained for an hour which is pretty impressive considering the simplicity of apples.
