Smartphone Installation Tips

Well, first of all, they're really well done! If you have any questions, they are indeed metal. So any type of plastic in the photos is just misleading. I bought these to use on my PIXEL 2 XL (front and back). They work well on a laptop too, but you have hundreds of options for a laptop. I needed something that would stand up to everyday smartphone use and after reviewing many products I decided to give it a try. I'm satisfied but I think there is room for improvement. I actually installed them on both the rear camera of my PIXEL 2 XL and the front camera. Most people think the rear camera lens is bigger because phone manufacturers use bigger glass to cover the real camera. However, if you look closely, you'll see that the rear camera is usually no larger than the front. Despite the small size of these covers (which I like), they were absolutely big enough to use for both the rear and front cameras. Then why only four stars? Well, because they need a bit of modification to work well. I made a few modifications, others I would recommend considering with the manufacturer. Modification #1: The sliding lens cap moved too easily on the pair I received. I would like a very thin felt or something added to the groove that the lens cap follows. This creates reliable friction between the holder and the lid. The pair I received opened and closed simply by gravity. I haven't come up with any material thin enough to add yet, but I found an ad hoc solution that works well so far. Before installing them, I laid them face down and tapped them lightly with a small hammer. Don't freak out, just touch them a little and test them. If that's not enough, click more. This process made the groove smaller so they had a little more friction. The problem is that after just a week I noticed that they move more easily than when they were first installed. I may have to touch them again, but I don't want to do that while they're installed on my phone. Modification #2: Nowhere in the instructions is this mentioned, but you really should wipe all oils off your phone and fingers. before installation. What I mean is to wipe the area you want to stick them to with rubbing alcohol. You need to get rid of the oils that are definitely on your jar. Allow this air to dry and dry your fingers before touching them. If you do, better keep them. Additional Modification #3: The 3M tape that attaches them is pretty strong but stays sticky even after a week. This makes it easier to remove them later and they can also slip around on very smooth glass. I considered taking the 3M tape off and using a glass and metal adhesive like Beacon Glass, Metal & More Premium Permanent Adhesive, 2 oz, but that turned out to be a little more permanent than I wanted to do right now. This will almost certainly leave an indelible mark on the jar if the lid is ever removed. It's YOUR decision and I'm not ready to make it yet. Just note that the included 3M tape doesn't stop them from eventually slipping off and potentially falling off if you're not careful. I think I have to re-insert them every month or so. Suggested Design Change #1 (see attached image): The number one reason they will ever fall is probably not glue. Although they are very thin, they still have a 0.026 inch vertical edge that can snag on clothing etc. I think a little design modification by adding a chamfer (chamfer) to the entire edge would be a big help. yes it will help Make them longer and wider by about 3mm, but that will probably greatly reduce the chances of them being ripped off if they snag on something. see the attached photo. Bottom line, I'll be buying more, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing improvements in the areas I've outlined above. I hope it helps.
