I've had several Keurig coffee makers over the years including alternative brands that have worked with K-Cups. The last one I had was the Keurig K-Mini. In comparison, I like this Keurig K-Express better. The main reason is that this model has a tank. Instead of pouring enough water one cup at a time, this holds 42 ounces. Not only does this save time from frequent water refills, but it's also less messy. With the K-Mini, you have to pour water directly into the coffee maker, which can overflow the sides. The tank allows you to completely remove it and add water over the sink. Simple and clean. Another thing I like more than the K-Mini is that it's faster. The K-Mini took 1.40 minutes to heat the water and 80 seconds to pour it out. Just 2.20 minutes. While this K-Express starts ejecting water immediately as soon as you press the button, the whole process cuts down to 1.30 minutes. (I used 12 ounces for comparison.) Although for some reason the contents don't come out as foamy. When I used the k-cup English Breakfast in the K-Mini it left a delicious frothy bit on the surface. It's not like this. Maybe it has something to do with how the water heats up or comes out. I measured the temperature of the water at 160 degrees which is hot but not scalding. I personally like drinks between 130 and 140 degrees, so at 160 I let it cool for a few minutes before drinking. Others can easily drink it at 160. I easily fit in my 7 inch glass (aka Travel Mug). You just need to remove the drip tray to create extra space. Unlike the K-Mini, you can choose from 3 different ounces: 8, 10, and 12. Also, this one has a "strong" setting. for the power cord. This means you may have an extra cord between the maker and the outlet that looks messy. To tidy up the cable I kept the zip tie that came with the kit. But it's not as nice to have as a secluded coupe. With the reservoir on the back, I found this unit to stand out more on our counter. The width is about the same but the length is over a foot and measures about 13 inches. Thankfully, this device uses the same standard mount as their older devices. This is the part that contains the K cup with the exit needle. What makes this old but still useful holder nice is that (1) you can easily remove it for cleaning and (2) you can swap it out depending on your brows. I personally don't like the taste of coffee, for example. I use it for tea and sometimes hot water. To keep my tea or water from tasting like coffee, I simply remove my wife's holder and pop in my own. This way I get clean tasting water every time with no coffee cross contamination. Although there is only one, additional holders are cheap and easy to come by. I personally use the ones from my old devices that have died. We have hard water that has killed several producers (minerals build up and clog over time). I highly recommend leaching white vinegar weekly and using a descaling solution after a few months. Keurig's support specialist recommended using filtered and purified water instead of tap water. Since we switched to purified drinking water from our local grocery store, the lifespan of our growers has increased dramatically. However, they all seem to have a limited lifespan. So don't buy it expecting to benefit from it for a few years. The guarantee is only valid for one year. It could be enough for two if you're careful. So far, so good. Both my wife and I are happy with this device and think it's a worthy upgrade over the K-mini.
