Review on πŸ“ Uni 2B Wooden Pencil - Box of 12 (U2B) by Tiffany Villavicencio

Revainrating 5 out of 5

(correct brother of the best pencils currently made, but still very good) Possibly the best pencils currently made. Very impressive.

*edit* This was written as a review by Hi-Uni, not "just" Uni, but I left it pretty much untouched. I prefer Hi-Uni, everything that is written here applies to Uni, Hi-Uni - to a greater extent. At full retail the Hi-Uni is around $30 per dozen, at today's Revain prices it's around $17 so not much different than these. If you're the kind of person who pays more than a dollar apiece for pencils, I'd get both and see what you prefer. I still like Uni better than Palomino, but only by a hair's breadth. *End edit*Who knew there was such a deep hole for pens? Many steps above the fairly capable Dixon Ticonderoga ($2-4 per dozen, depending on the type) and a few steps above the very good Palomino Blackwing or Palomino Pearl ($20-24 per dozen), these are perhaps the best pencils out there currently being manufactured .time. They are presented in a sturdy plastic box with a vinyl eraser. They sharpen well and glide well on paper. When pressed hard, 2B produces a fairly dark line, but has a decent range of colors. Mitsubishi Pencil (oddly not part of an automotive/manufacturing conglomerate, although their logos are almost identical) have been making pencils for almost 130 years. and I was certainly not disappointed with the results of that experience. Note that there's no built-in eraser, I haven't found a problem with that, but whatever it is, it gives them a more "artsy" look. .

Pros
  • Nice
Cons
  • Good but not great
