Review on Convenient and Versatile: Malone Downloader Folding J-Style ๐Ÿš— Universal Car Rack Kayak Carrier with Bow and Stern Lines by Brian Henley

Great stance but not ideal for aerodynamic/oval bars.

Pros: These are solid stands and the actual build quality is top notch. My favorite feature is that they fold in half so you don't have to ride them straight in the air all the time. The supplied straps are ideal for keeping the kayak firmly on the luggage rack. Not so good: I was disappointed when I first got them as they were said to fit aero bars. I have a 2012 Subaru WRX and I use factory roof rails that are aerodynamically oval. The bracket has a square slot in the middle only and no crease. There are also no adapters that would fit under the air circuit. That being said, it was able to fit my aero bars, and the clip on the bottom keeps it firmly in place. It can still rock back and forth a bit, but once you strap the kayak on it stays pretty tight. To remedy this, I designed an adapter and 3D printed it. The adapter sits perfectly on my aero handlebars and fits very well in the square slot of the kayak holder. The reason I did this was because I didn't want my crossbars to be dented and scratched since they are covered in black. Overall I would definitely recommend these racks to anyone and could buy another pair in a second. Kayak. For those with factory oval/aero bars, note that they will NOT align with the bar, but will still be able to sit up and tighten. The only way around this is to create some kind of adapter or look around for a different brand all together.
