hard drive is fine but idle timeout sucks like hell

Normal performance. Budget SSD from Sandisk inside (according to diagnostics), so it probably won't beat the latter in heavy use. (I have a 256GB model as well as a couple of 512GB models; they all have Sandisk drives from the same "cheap" line of products.) Thought it would only be good for photos and movies, but 10 minutes left - outside of "idle". kill it for almost any purpose. For example, you watch a movie, stop it for a bathroom break or something, and when you come back, it won't play anymore. You enter the password, but the movie won't continue: you'll have to close it, reopen it, and search where you left off before you stop. Don't forget to note the position as your media player will reset it after the disc is detached. It's even worse for photos as most image viewers/slideshows don't allow you to resume viewing from the same spot. Photos in a long sequence. They don't even show you where you were when the drive went offline due to that "protective" timeout! Repeated shutdowns can drive your computer nuts, so at some point it's not just a matter of re-entering the password: you have to unplug the USB cable, plug it back in, type the password, and if it still doesn't work, restart the whole computer . Then everything all over again. Nightmare. Or at least a lot of trouble. :(
