Works right out of the box, no calibration required. There were 3 button batteries in the box, you only need 2 and a calibration weight of 5 g. I put the batteries in, switched it on, put the included 5g weight on the scale, the scale showed exactly 5g. I placed the device on the record of my Pioneer PL-514, needle lowered to the target. After checking this stylus force scale, it turned out that my contact pressure was too high. This scale made it clear to me that the counterweight on my tonearm was wrong. After using these weights to set the counterweight to the correct needle pressure of 1.25g, my recordings have never sounded so good. This is proof that the right stylus pressure makes a big difference in the sound of my recordings. I used to walk around the ring with a counterweight. This tool comes in handy when using different combinations of cartridges and setting the correct needle force for each combination.
