For example, give them their own sandbox.

I have two brothers, one of whom has asthma. I was looking for a spatula that was little to dusty or dust-free but still clumps well. If it could still be washed off I would consider it a HUGE bonus. He's good in every way! Because the green bag is so tiny (smaller than sand) it's easier to sift and scoop up than any other bedding I've ever used. I'm actually looking for a dustpan with smaller holes than I currently have to keep the litter clean and extend its life. There is literally no dust in it. Zero. You can throw the whole bag in the tray at once and no dust will be left behind. Nada. In this respect everything is perfect. The filler itself has no odor, but for an odorless filler, it does a pretty good job of preventing odors. It's very easy for cats to dig, so they tend to cover things up pretty well (even the boy who usually likes to keep his cover up is now burying his poo). I have never scraped anything off the bottom or sides of a tray with this litter. Everything just slips out. Added bonus: I've found that my own cat might have some crystals because you can see absolutely every change in urine color. Normally, the urine clots are almost the same color as the litter. She started turning pink(!) and I could observe it during the day and take her to the vet because of it. Its volume has never changed and if I were still using clay putty I would never see a difference! I have included photos of more pink urine which alerted me to the issue. Please note that the photos show a mix of tiny and small grains as I have tried to reduce tracking. Also note that urine clots are usually the color of the litter itself. Since some people have complained that flushing this pen causes plumbing problems, I've been conservative about it. I just had to replace ALL the plumbing when I got this place and I wouldn't do it again! I follow some people's advice and leave clumps of urine in the toilet for about 15-30 minutes before catching them. Looks gross, but I don't have to wrap them up, tie them up, and carry them down and across the house to the trash first thing in the morning. I scoop, do my morning routine, then come back and rinse off. No problem. Now for the cons: Tracking The floor in my bathroom looks like the floor in a beach buffet. Sand is everywhere. I keep a small dustpan by the tray and sweep it up as best I can, but these tiny scavengers really travel! Also, I'm not the type to completely sweep every grain every time someone uses a box. Therefore, special mats are ordered to catch debris. Hope they help. From the way they land I think they'll hit the mark. On the other hand, the filler doesn't seem to move through the cat's fur much. So far I'm very happy with it. I order both tiny grit (the size of sand in a green bag) and fine grit (large, slightly less trackable grit in purple bags). how bad I feel after a year but after that I can guarantee I won't go back to clay beds.Even MY lungs are better without all the dust!

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
