2/5 stars because so many lights work consistently. They all worked in test mode until they actually *were* at the Christmas tree. Once on the tree, long stretches of both threads began shorting and disconnecting. I'm afraid to leave it unattended. I used a securely grounded extension cord, connected one strand to the other, didn't pull or stretch them as they were placed on the tree (I had two people to prevent natural pull from gravity), and wrapped them lightly around the branches . It seems that every slight twist of the cable shorts out entire sections and then you have to tune and balance them just right. And even with very careful fishing, there *still* be dark line segments and dead bulbs all over the tree. It will be very difficult to solve this problem to hang decorations. Too much money, not worth returning and waiting for a replacement which may or may not be reliable.
