Review on Kids Non-Ticking Analog Alarm Clock W/ Night Light, Cartoon Animal Design Battery Operated Portable Desk Clock For Bedroom - Pink Rabbit by Cynthia Trahan

Great for travel or back up alarm

Got this for my mom who is 75 y.o. She - like most of us - uses her smartphone for pretty much everything including to check the time and for an alarm, but at night she wanted something she could simply roll over and glance at or to see the time when she was in her bedroom and didn't have her phone with her.Overall this is a cute little clock. It runs on two AA batteries which are NOT included. The battery compartment is easy access - a little pop off panel in the back. The clock has a second hand, but it doesn't make any ticking sounds so it won't disturb light sleeps or those who like to sleep in complete silence. The purple clock face has standard 12-hour time demarcations as well as military time and to count out 60 seconds/minutes, but the white version only has 12-hour markings and plain dots for minutes . The purple version is what you want to get if using this for younger kids learning how to tell time or who may still need help.To set the clock, there are two small knobs on the back. With the back of the clock facing you, the knob on the left is the one to set the alarm. Simply turn the knob to align the red arm on the face of the clock to whatever time you want to get up. Be warned that the alarm will go off twice a day since this doesn't differentiate between AM and PM. So if you set the alarm for 8:30AM, it will also go off at 8:30PM. There is a snooze button on top of the clock to will mute the alarm for five minutes, and it's the same button as the one to turn on the LED. To turn the alarm off and back on, there is a slide button on the right side (when the front of the clock is facing you). You will need to remember to turn the alarm back on for the next day before going to bed since this isn't like your phone alarm or a digital alarm clock. To set the time, the knob on the right (with the back of the clock facing you) is what you will turn. Both this and the alarm dial are very smooth and easy to set. The alarm sounds with a beeping noise that is rather quiet compared to others had over the years. It's plenty to wake a person up, but it's not harsh or blaring. On a scale of 1-10, this is more of a four 'nudge you awake' rather than a 10 'death metal concert in your bedroom'.As for night vision, this clock offers two options. The little button on top of the clock that you press to snooze the alarm is the same one to turn on a singe LED to light the clock face. Once you stop pressing the button, the LED goes out. I like this feature since it keeps the LED from being left on by accident and draining the batteries quicker. The minute and hour hands also glow in the dark thanks to luminous paint. Nothing else on the clock face glows, so younger children who don't yet know how to tell time based solely on where the hour and minute hands are positioned won't be able to figure out the time. The glow fades after a couple of hours, though, so this feature is kind of useless for the middle of the night. It would be nice if the glow lasted longer and if the hour markers were luminous as well. Thankfully the LED isn't bright enough to destroy night vision or jolt a person awake.Even with two AA batteries, this clock is very, very lightweight. It is easily knocked off a nightstand or dresser if brushed against by a pillow or blanket or wandering cat. Being lightweight helps if this clock is knocked to the floor since it won't hurt either the floor or a person's foot should it be in the wrong spot at the wrong time. The clock shouldn't suffer any damage if it falls on carpet, either. Our floors are wood, and the one time already one of our cats has pushed this off of Mom's nightstand, the clock suffered no visible damage. The fall was only a couple of feet, though. From a dresser or highboy or to a tile floor, the story may be different. There 's no hook or notch on the back to hang this on a wall, either. If you want the clock to stay in place, you will need to put down some double sided sticky tape or use a small velcro strip.Speaking of being lightweight, this clock is also a great option for traveling. Most hotels have a digital clock or you have your phone, but it's nice to have a backup in case of a power outage (at home or away) or if for some reason your phone alarm doesn't go off like it should (we've all had this happen, right?). Or if you're a heavy sleeper or turn off alarms in your sleep (I do this and have a few family and friends that do as well), having an alarm clock like this that requires manual shut off can help ensure you get up on time, especially if the clock is set someplace where. you need to get out of bed to shut it off.Mom likes her new little clock, and finds it easy to use. It's cute, works like it should, and doesn't have an alarm so loud that you are blasted out of sleep. Even the price is good considering how nice this little clock is and its features.

Pros
  • Clocks
Cons
  • The clock does not include any additional features such as a snooze button or radio, which could be a deal-breaker for some buyers
