Although the name of this product suggests that it is a kitchen printer, it can actually be used anywhere. I work in a digital forensics lab and we have hard drive erasers that require serial (RS232) printers to print erase confirmations (see photos). serial cable and set the DIP switch on the bottom of the device to the correct speed (this is only required if using a serial connection). I also connected the printer to my computer via USB to see if it worked. As long as you install the driver (included on the CD or downloaded from the company's website) it works like a champ. My only real issue, which I don't blame the printer for, is that the cutter doesn't fire after the check is printed. I believe this is because my hard drive eraser is not sending the appropriate command to the printer. I know the cutter works because I ran a self-test and used the tools included in the driver package. Overall I am very happy with this printer and would recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap receipt printer with multiple connectivity options. UPDATE: I spoke to printer support and they directed me to send a cutting instruction to the printer. Very helpful! I am actively working with the hard drive eraser manufacturer to add this option.
