This is my first barbell rack, maybe they all are, but this rack is significantly larger than your standard lightweight rack. Everything is thicker and stronger, and the base of the stand opens wider than a basic cheap lighting stand, although the overall design remains the same. Aside from the added overall performance of this tripod, the main difference to a regular lighting tripod is obviously the extension arm and the tilting mechanism that makes this possible. The tilting mechanism is also the only area I can find fault with on this well-designed stand. It's a smooth piece of metal and you really have to twist the handle to lock it securely. I think it would be better and still give you 98% control over the angle if it had teeth to help grab it and fix it at points, saving you the trouble of turning the handle hard. On the plus side, the handle for this is metal, so it's less likely to break than a plastic handle under the same loads. Overall I am very happy with this stand and it was a great price. It's great that the dart can be stored in the stand when needed and you can also use it as a regular heavy duty stand so it's very versatile. If I don't start switching to true C stands I'll probably buy more of them just to get the extra functionality out of them. If anything happens after using the stand for a while I'll let you know, but so far so good.
