I bought two of these adapters because according to the listing they allow me to 1) send a microphone signal to a device like my iPhone and also 2) allow me to use separate headphones for the monitor. The stereo headphone output worked normally (ONLY IF USING A STEREO HEADSET - WILL NOT WORK WITH A 3-PING MOBILE HEADSET). The microphone input did not work properly and only worked after a lot of trial and error and only with a very specific microphone input. What a pain in the ass! This is not a plug and work adapter! I tried the adapter on the iPad and the same malfunction occurred. My trial and error showed that this connector didn't work for BOTH of the two devices I bought, so I know it's not because either of them were defective, but I believe this malfunction to be a design flaw . You may have to fix a lot of bugs to make it work or find the right microphone for it. Not quite the "universal" adapter I was hoping to find. Here's a little fix I did that I hope can help you. This microphone with a mono feed to the stereo input - it did not work. • I have several other microphones that I can connect to the stereo mini jack, including a reverse powered microphone - none of them worked. THE ONLY MICROPHONES THAT WORK WITH THIS ARE THE ADAPTERS ALREADY STARTED AS TRRS (3 1/8 INCH RING IN) ADAPTED TO STEREO IN! - Ring devices (even adapted) that expect the iPhone and iPad to look through the input to see that a microphone is connected. Without using such an original 3-ring microphone, the device does not seem to recognize that the input is connected to the adapter.AND THIS ADAPTER SHOULD NOT DO THAT? A SOURCE-INDEPENDENT SOUND DEVICE? So again, if you're not open to a lot of trial, error, and frustration, then this adapter is NOT for you. By the way, I went to the local electronics store. saved and bought the SAME type of adapter (a TRRS that splits into stereo audio in and stereo audio out) and it works fine WITH ALL the audio inputs I send through it. It really is plug and play and that's how I expected this adapter to work. Well, as the age old saying goes, if you buy invisible crap here at Revain, you get what you pay for!
