I'm a big fan of loose leaf tea - better quality leaves, more variety of ingredients etc. But at the same time a situation arises with the filter. I hate tea balls - due to the structure of the ball, the leaves shrink when trying to unfold until infused, the water temperature drops and you lose a lot of flavor. The solution is to give the leaves enough room to spread out and expand as they come in, and this arrangement allows you to do just that. The lid as a practical drip catcher for the basket is great. I have 2 of these - one for work and one for home. my boss has I gave one to someone. Big pro tip: Make sure to wash the basket of leaves while the leaves are still damp, so shortly after drinking. If you allow tea leaves or other infusions like rooibos or chamomile to dry out, they will stick to the sides and be very difficult to remove without some sort of industrial cleaning or sitting and soaking.
