Updated M510 Mouse

This overview is intended for regular M510 users. Anyone who has owned this mouse should know that Logitech changed the design a bit. Along with their new logo, the new "2nd Edition" M510 (a missed opportunity by not calling it M510S or something) now also features a "laser-ready" optical sensor, as opposed to the old "true laser" sensor. After an intensive search for information, Internet researchers in several forums confirmed a few facts on the front page. First, an optical sensor isn't necessarily a downgrade. Laser sensors have their own issues - some complaints about the old 510 were that it exhibited cursor stutter, judder and jitter - and a modified design will likely fix those issues. That being said, laser sensors have a higher DPI resolution, which should mean they're more accurate. Common sense might make you consider buying this new M510S (my nickname for it). Why does the "newer" model have LESS DPI? Such a shame! Well, let's be real millennials and talk about what it's like. The optical sensor appears smooth and rounded, but still agile and lively. It's actually very beautiful. The cursor "acceleration" in the old version became more noticeable when used side by side and it started to get annoying after I actually noticed it. With no subtle wobble, the overall experience is more accurate. Thankfully, the folks at Logitech seem to be pragmatists and have realized that while they've removed some of the super awesome DPI, the mouse actually performs more satisfactorily in real-world use. After doing a lot more research than I was hoping for, I found that most people would agree with that as well. However, I would like the change to be communicated more clearly. I almost didn't even open the package thinking it was fake so my first use was awash with skepticism. I wrote this review because I don't think I'll be the last to experience this. If you currently own or have owned the first version of the M510 and want to replace it or get a second, different design, just buy it. That's the beauty of this thing: the mouse isn't something to obsess over and it just works well.
