Review on Enhance Your Printing πŸ–¨οΈ Precision with QIDI Technology Resin Printer by Brian Potter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The "most industrial " polymer 3D printer I've ever owned. High quality with excellent technical support

Please note that I have not received any compensation for this review. I bought the printer at full price from Revain. First, I would like to introduce my general experience and expertise in this area. I've been 3D printing for over 6 years. I started making filament printers and printing my own designs, but needed the benefits of printing on slate, so I finally switched to it over a year ago. I have a print farm with up to a dozen printers running at the same time. I have had printers of all major brands and a few smaller brands and have repaired and serviced them all. based on my experience with Qidi Shadow 5.5s. The 5.5 is a great printer with a very solid build. Much better quality and attention to detail than other printers in this class. As for the S-Box: First, this printer is big. Its form factor is very different from other printers as most of the electronics are placed to the left of the printer. The motherboard and other parts are neatly placed to the side, unlike other printers that place them below the screen and LED matrix at the bottom of the printer. This is convenient for two reasons: 1. It protects critical electronics from damage in the event of resin leakage due to an FEP hole and protects them from the heat of the LED array. 2. This lowers the height of the device, giving you more space to place it in lower closed drawers or regular shelves. When you return the printer, it is well packed in its own shipping carton. It comes with lots of documents and tools to help you get set up. Very high quality USB stick. The LCD screen is large and easy to read, touch-sensitive and well-lit. The operating system is a typical citiibox-based system that is very easy to navigate. The setup is small and leveling the build platform is very easy. This is a single screw alignment that uses a turnbuckle adjuster that is ON THE PRINTER and not on the platen. This makes sense as scratching the build plate hard and hard will NOT throw it out of alignment. I've never seen any other printer where the alignment mechanism stays on the printer. Drain holes and weight reduction. It has a clip that allows you to rotate the plate 90 degrees and hang it over the tank to allow excess resin to drain after printing (brilliant). The plate didn't need to be sanded to make it work. The molds stick to it insanely, maybe even too much as I had to reduce the exposure of the base layer to make it easier to remove the molds. The resin pan is very large, larger than the build plate, which is good in that it reduces suction forces and allows the resin to move when the build plate is in its original position. The tank is made of high-quality aluminum with a clean finish and a beautiful powder coating. It is easy to remove. I haven't replaced fep yet. So I can't say anything about this process. I had to remove the access panels so I can say the inside of the printer looks very high quality. Well assembled, all cables are neatly assembled. The spotlight for the LED matrix and screen is MASSIVE which is very cool. All this is very easily accessible in case of repairs. Again, the fit and finish of this printer is several notches better than any other brand I've used. Even small details don't get smudged, it's great. An important part of any 3D printer experience is technical support. You will need it. As great as a printer is there are things like the LCD that are really destined to break, they are consumables and you need help buying new parts or getting repair guides. Qidi technical support is one of the best. I have ever met. It's a foreign (Chinese?) company, but you'll never know from your interactions with them. I have dealt with many other companies that have tech support staff who have very limited English skills which causes some problems in getting the information needed and contacting them. I had no problems with Kidi via email. Amy is amazing and understands any problem you might have. I had to have my LCD replaced and it was covered under warranty. They quickly sent a new one with full video instructions on how to swap it out. The kit contained all the parts that I needed to replace, including the ones I don't need. That was remarkable compared to other printer manufacturers. Some don't even give you vinyl tape to stick the screen to the car floor, they just leave you using whatever you can find, but Qidi gives you some washers. In terms of print quality, the S-Box performs just as well. any other 2k full color LCD printer I've used. With the right slicer settings, the prints are very sharp and clean, and even the smallest details come out perfectly. Needless to say, the full color LCD screen is very slow compared to newer black and white printers. Please note that I have several B&W printers and I have found that they all suffer from the same printing issue, they sometimes create artifacts in Prince, especially on smooth surfaces. The new 4K monochrome printers seem to be doing this a lot less often, but they're expensive and hard to find these days. On some jobs I don't really mind the extra time the boxes take because the prints are so clean. The LED matrix appears to be very strong over the ENTIRE print area. This is very important as many printers tend to be weak at the edges of their screens, leading to support failure and loss of detail. The solution is to increase the exposure time, but this results in overexposure in the middle of the bed to get a good exposure on the outside. This problem does not exist with the S-Box. If you want to improve your typing game in the summer and upgrade to a more professional fscotr printer, then the S-Box is your best choice. It has printer customization and design that costs five times as much, and the best technical support in the business. We will be happy to rate you positively and in a timely manner and will respond to your e-mails quickly. I am very happy for Qidi and look forward to using more of their products in the future.

Pros
  • Newly designed aluminum resin casting cup optimized for use with the latest generation of FEP film. Improved that FEP film overstretches and often breaks when printing large models. The improved structure ensures the lifespan of the FEP film.
Cons
  • Only available in black
