After a year and a half I searched and found the exact same modem that I rented from my cable company for $5 a month. I bought a used modem for $12, it works great and looks brand new. During the initial setup I accidentally plugged it in and did an online setup from my cable company. Save yourself the headache and don't make this mistake. I switched my modem from rented to bought back and forth, back and forth again. Eventually I unplugged the modems, called the cable company with the new IP number of my purchased modem, plugged it in and it worked fine and still works. Do yourself a favor and call the cable company when the modem arrives, give them the IP address, they fill in the information and you'll be up and running in no time. When I finally did that, everything worked great. I wish I had done it a year and a half earlier. I would save $60 a year!
