I am a natural redhead. In the past few years I've been turning pale and a little gray (I'm only 30). I saw all about henna and went back and forth trying to decide if it was worth trying. I'm SO glad I did! I almost bought another brand but they would be here after my day off. Not only did I get a great color, but my hair is healthier than it has been in years. After scouring the internet, I didn't follow the instructions on the box. I did the following: 1. Heated water. I used a coffee maker with no coffee (wanted to see what the henna would do without repeating it).2. The mixed heated water is slowly poured into the henna until a thick yogurt texture is formed.3. Covered the dishes I cooked for the night (about 11 hours total).4. Apply petroleum jelly to your forehead, neck, and ears. Don't skip this step! Is that so important. If you don't like Vaseline, you can use other skin protection products. The gloves I used have a tiny hole on my nail and my fingertip is still orange after 3 days. It smells like fish food mixed with matcha. I don't know if the lemongrass changed color but gosh the smell is better and my hair still smells a bit like lemongrass but the fish food tint was gone a few hours after rinsing it out. Put on good gloves.6. Apply everywhere. I used a whole small tub, it was a bit bigger than I probably needed, but I put everything on my head and it seemed to cover well enough that I didn't have any missed spots. 7. Protect your head. I used two shower caps (making sure one covered the front hairline and the other the back) then tied a headscarf around the edges where my minor burns on the side and my lower hair at the back of my head were sticking out a bit. I have children and I didn't want that to happen to them, I also did housework while I waited.8. Wait. I only waited about 3 hours. Some people wait 1, some keep it overnight. From what I've seen reading various websites, 3 hours is quite normal.9. Wash. It didn't take long I heard. I moistened and moistened my head well, massaged the conditioner in for a couple of minutes, moistened from time to time and washed off. It may have taken 10 minutes.10. wait a few days The color immediately after and today is completely different. It didn't look like it at first, but now it's perfect. I am adding some photos. One is me and my daughter a few months ago (the only pre henna pic in natural light) the other is in the sun today. I hope this gives someone a good idea of what they did to my hair. I'm in love. So in love. I can't believe I was never brave enough to try this before. Now I'm never going back.
