Review on 🧭 Magellan eXplorist 110 Handheld GPS: Your Ultimate Outdoor Navigation Tool by Cedric Ford

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice and simple product for handheld GPS devices

I bought this after trying the locally purchased Explorist GC. The GC was too focused on geocaching for my taste. This model can be used for that, but it's also great if you just want to get out and run, or if you want to motivate you to go a little further/faster during your workout. It comes with a quick start booklet, but the actual manual can (and should) be easily downloaded from the internet. It's pretty easy, but without this guide there are a few settings I wouldn't have figured out. As with other GPS units I've tried, it takes a while to find itself when you first turn it on once you've traveled a certain distance from where it turned off (or the first time after unpacking). After that it works fine. and synchronized within a minute. It was sensitive enough to pick up a signal indoors while I was reading the manual. The displays can be changed as needed and there is no need to purchase maps. It comes with a coupon to access a geocaching website if you want to go that route, but you can download caches for free without it too. Overall I'm very happy with it. Update: He's dead, Jim. After almost 5 years it finally won't start anymore. I also bought a Magellan for geocaching and use the 710 most of the time, but still take it out every now and then, especially when other people are riding. I always stored it without batteries to avoid damage. The last few times I loaded it it took a lot longer to show anything on screen and now it's dead. Even after 5 years it was still very useful for geocaching. I still recommend it.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
