I have ordered this salt several times for my saltwater aquarium. It's always been great for the money. This mix helps control my parameters. But this party was very different than usual. Lumpy salt. First, the salt was pretty hard. The bag didn't break, but I had to hit the bag to break the salt. This is important because it is difficult to measure out the salt before adding it to the mix tank. Also, I have to go through my mixing tank to make sure the lumps of salt dissolve. Then more salt is needed. Continue. I had to almost double the amount of salt I used to get the saltiness I needed. In recent years, my mix has been reduced to three and a half cups (I used red party cups to measure the set) of salt per fresh serving of water for a water change. With this new order, it took just over 6 cups to do a 15 gallon water change. I've been using this new batch of salt for a month now and have just started dosing my aquarium to balance the parameters. . Usually I just have to worry about the alkalinity and water changes do the rest. I'm hoping it's just a bad batch, but since this is such a large order, a bad batch can drag on for months. Since I only order a box of salt 3-4 times a year. Depending on whether I want to do weekly or bi-weekly water changes. If someone else had the same problem, you are not alone. Updated 09/20/20. After sorting another bag out of the box, I found that some of the salt doesn't dissolve, at least it looks like salt cake. After mixing 15 gallons in my mix tank, a significant amount of white speckle accumulates at the bottom of the tank. I think it's salt but I don't know why it doesn't dissolve. It doesn't matter how long I run the pump to mix the salt. I don't know what it could be, but I know it's not coming from anywhere else. The water is filtered through RODI and becomes clear before I add the salt mixture. This is a really bad batch.
