After researching the shelf life of butter at room temperature, I decided I needed it. It is widely accepted that if you keep the oil covered, it can be kept out of the fridge for up to 10 days, otherwise only 3 days. Now I have 4 regular consumers of butter at home, three of us add it to the coffee. This container has a silicone seal to keep it tight. To be honest we don't use a locking mechanism, we don't transport it or try to keep the raccoons at bay. Quality materials and weight, and there is a mark for tablespoons on the base. For a quick clean, I just hold it under hot water and the remaining oil literally melts away. like butter!
