My first DSLR, after a gradual maturation, made the most of my previous "professional" compact and wanted more. I’ll make a reservation right away, it’s better to buy a carcass separately and an all-subject and more enlightened lens for it, for example, an inexpensive Tamron 24-75 / 2.8 . and you will be happy. I ran it around on vacation, there were almost 1500 photos, in total: I almost didn’t use 18mm focal lengths - I started taking pictures from 24mm, but I often rested on the 55mm whale lens at the far end with a feeling of lack of it. 70-75mm at the far end is also good for portrait photography, but you need a lens with a large "hole". Focusing on the D5100 is very fast, saving images too (I took the card from class 10, 2800 for 32GB). The colors are good, but a hood would be useful when shooting outdoors, take it right away (and / or a UV filter). The swivel monitor helps a lot, I constantly used this opportunity so as not to take the most intricate poses. It is also convenient to shoot video. Separately, about the video: the quality is excellent, reminiscent of shooting on film in terms of color and blurring of the background, but . it's still a camera, and therefore it has its own features for getting a really high-quality "movie". Firstly, you need to shoot short clips (in principle, this is how it is done in the Bolshoi Cinema), and then edit it. This is due to the attempt of the device on the machine all the time to look for focus. You do this - you choose a scene, think about what aperture to set, focus, immediately shift the focus on the lens to Manual, lock the composition (AE-L) and only after that shoot. I chose between this Nikon and the Canon 600D - practically twin brothers, but since the latter turned out to be more expensive (33t. R. vs. 26.5t. R. for Nikon), then I bought the one that is cheaper. In addition, I have heard more than once that Canon whale lenses are soapy, but here you can run for a long time with a whale lens (only the hole is small - from 3.5) In a word, I am satisfied with the camera, the pictures are awesome.
