Pillow speaker has a 3 position switch. One position turns off the sound completely. The other two positions provide a sound that is the same for both switch positions. I have to turn the source volume up to 100% to get a weak sound. I may have a defective device, but I would not recommend this speaker. UPDATE: I'm increasing this rating from 1 star to 3 stars because the pillow speaker's low volume is a result of the circuitry driving the speaker. This explains why many complain about the volume being too low. The circuitry that drives the headphone jack is often limited as they don't want you getting sued for ruptured eardrums. I solved my low volume problem by sending the signal through a different amplifier to the headphone jack before moving on to the speaker in the pillow. I can hear things now. Unfortunately, depending on the device driving the speaker, your results may be inaccurate.
