Poor sound quality

Cool product. It has great portability overall and is easy to set up, but the sound quality isn't up to scratch. To hear the audio, you have to press the speaker against the cushion, making sure your ear is always touching where it's at is located, even at full volume. This was the only major issue I had, although I couldn't tell the difference between tone settings A and B.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Annoying

Strong and flat block

Strong and flat block so it's not noticeable under the pillow. It has three sound settings, and while I can hear pretty well, even the loudest setting is pretty quiet. I use a down pillow and have found that the speaker needs to be perfectly aligned under my ear to hear the video properly. However, music is easier to listen to; probably because I'm not trying to follow the dialogue or the story. In general. decent device for the price.

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • I don't remember

Great product at an affordable price saved the day

I just can't fall asleep without watching tv. I have a wife and a newborn who don't need a TV to sleep. My first decision was to use the Apple Earpiece in my right ear while resting the left side of my head on the pillow. Because of this cumbersome setup, I often got tangled in the cord. Enter the Sangean Pillow Pillar and life will improve. Sounds perfect when placed just below your ear. The pillow drowns it out for the rest of the people in the room. This is an absolutely amazing product.

It's not loud enough and not comfortable enough.

Too uncomfortable to hold your head/ear, but if you put it under your pillow you can't make it loud enough even at max volume. You can put it on a pillow next to your ear, but if you fall asleep and roll over on it, you'll be imprinted. Also, every time you move, you have to change its position. It's better than nothing, but I think a dual speaker that you can tuck under your pillow and adjust the volume to sound as loud as you need would be better.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Quiet

Spend more to get a better product

Not loud enough mono sound, no volume control, no amplifier, too bulky under pillow, uncomfortable, requires frequent repositioning to keep it out of the way when sleeping to vacate. Had to buy 2 with a splitter to get stereo sound but still not loud enough. In hindsight I would have wished for a softer, flatter model with an amplifier and stereo sound, but to be honest I knew that from a review before I bought it. I bought the one that came with the blindfold/sweat which is much better in all…

Useless junk for portable linear speakers

This speaker is said to be placed under the pillow. Mine fits in there, of course, but the sound isn't audible. The only way to make it even minimally audible is to either put it in a pillowcase right next to my head (just handy until I roll on it), or on the pillow itself, or on the mattress next to the pillow. The last two methods usually result in the speaker falling off the bed. This speaker was a waste of money. EDIT: I found a third method that worked: when I sleep on my side, I put the…

If your head isn't on the pillow, you won't hear it

My grandfather gave me one of these when I was 10 years old. so much late night radio that my parents would never have approved of and it shaped me. Unfortunately it broke but I was older at the time and my parents didn't respect my listening habits so I forgot about it. I'm now 31 and an avid listener of podcasts while I fall asleep. The design of this column is the same that I remembered from my childhood. Slim profile, horizontal side speaker ports with impressively clear sound and a 3.5"…

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Hard to say

Strange frequency response

I bought it a long time ago. I never used it and after trying again I remembered why. As other people have mentioned, yes it is quiet. It didn't bother me - it was loud enough for me (although maybe because I have an unusual pillow, something like a rattle). What bothered me is that it has a very tight frequency response. It's quiet enough to hear, I had to turn it up, but some frequencies are so loud my ears hurt after a few minutes from the sound. At least that's what I think happens…

Where's the sound?

Pillow speaker has a 3 position switch. One position turns off the sound completely. The other two positions provide a sound that is the same for both switch positions. I have to turn the source volume up to 100% to get a weak sound. I may have a defective device, but I would not recommend this speaker. UPDATE: I'm increasing this rating from 1 star to 3 stars because the pillow speaker's low volume is a result of the circuitry driving the speaker. This explains why many complain about the…
