Review on Yaesu Original FTM-300DR: 50W πŸ“» Dual-Band Digital Mobile Transceiver - C4FM/FM 144/430MHz by Adam Roman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great radio for mobile use

Detachable head comes with all required mounting hardware and due to its smaller size compared to 400dr it can be easily installed in a vehicle. The screen (non-touch) is clearly visible in different lighting conditions. The APRS functionality is great, with customizable pop-up notifications showing you've received beacons, messages, etc. Each area has two dedicated knobs, making it easy to customize each one. Programming is fairly easy when done from the device itself, and even easier when done with an SD card. In terms of ease of use, this was one of my favorite radios and a huge improvement over the ID-4100 I had previously installed. The only disadvantage. updates the firmware. I'm used to tricky firmware updates, so I followed Yaesu's instructions very closely. I've made many attempts, tried multiple computers, USB cables, etc. I even got another ham to follow all the instructions on his own computer just to make sure I didn't make a mistake. It didn't work for him either. Out of stubbornness I just kept trying. I have no idea what the problem is, but one day it suddenly worked.

Pros
  • CB and talkback radios
Cons
  • Expensive
