Review on 🚗 ECOGARD XA10418 Premium Engine Air Filter: Mitsubishi Outlander, Outlander Sport & Lancer (2012-2020) by Christopher Gotcher

Yes this product will work but is difficult to install as it does not correct the design flaw in the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Even if you orient the filter correctly so that it fits into the air filter housing the housing cover will not fit in the grooves on the filter. The case back does not fit completely onto the filter and gets caught at the bottom edge. If you try to use force, you will *damage* the filter housing and housing. I looked at the original filter and noticed that the bottom was pleated about 1/4 inch to fit in the case. My decision? Use a hacksaw or an oscillating saw to cut about 1/4 inch off the bottom (basically you're cutting off the bottom of the filter where the groove is). Then it fits after this modification. See attached photos (1) how it doesn't fit, (2) comparing the new filter to the "broken" old filter, (3) where to cut, (4) drawing of the inside of the housing where a design flaw found (the bottom of the two halves of the housing are too close together) and (5) how the filter looks after field modification. I suggest that the manufacturer resize the filter to account for this design flaw.
