Insufficient threads for durability.

The product looked good, but when I screwed it into a new filter to test fit, two things became apparent: 1- the diameter of the sealing surface was about 1/4” smaller than it should be and just barely contacted the inner part of the filter seal, but still may have sealed, and 2- most importantly, the threads are truncated, which means that due to the missing threads at the beginning, I only had about 1/2 of 1 thread engagement, which would not have lasted long and probably would have pulled…

Pros
  • Worked exactly as described for my 2012 ram 2500 6.7.
Cons
  • The 57180 Oil Filter Plug Tool is expensive

Simple to use great to have in your toolbox.

I wished I had known about this prior to my first oil change on my 2015 RAM 6.7 Cummins. My first time I dropped the filer into a ziplock hoping for a spill free filter extraction. Was pretty close but the ziplock has a few things to snag on on the way out. I though there has to be a better way Im not seeing and discovered this. I bought two. One goes on my pre filled new filter. and then one on the filter coming out. You certainly could just use and swap the one but It just makes it a quick…

Pros
  • great tool , dont recomend changing your filter with out it, or you will make a mess
Cons
  • The thread on the oil filter plug did not match the thread on the oil filter.

This could have better fitment.

While this is well built with hard plastic, it barely fits the filter. It only threads on fully with half a turn, so these threads won’t last long. And the surface barely seals on the filter gasket.

Pros
  • My husband said this worked so good to get to the oil filter in the Ram truck. We had no issues with it.
Cons
  • The tool may not be user-friendly

Fantastic little doodad

Changed the filter on my 2014 Ram 3500 diesel. I was able to drop the filter down and spin on this tool, grab the whole assembly with the handle prongs on the tool, rotate it about 90 degrees and pull it out the wheelwell without losing a drop of oil. I then prefilled a new filter and reversed the process for the new filter. Easy as it gets.

Pros
  • Worked like a charm.
Cons
  • The tool may damage the oil filter plug

Oil Filter Plug Tool

Zero oil mess to clean up post oil change. Let your local oil change specialist use the Oil Filter Plug Tool when you go to get a service and he will gladly clean it up for you and give it back. The Oil Filter Plug Tool will save him the time that it takes to clean up the oil that would have spilt without it.

Pros
  • Keeps oil in the filter won't leak out when turning filter on its side to get out
Cons
  • The tool may need to be replaced frequently

Is not needed. - my new review

Product is great. I thought I would need it, despite the reviews this is not needed to change the oil filter. I removed and installed the filter from the bottom laying on my back. Now it looks pretty sitting in my tool box.

Pros
  • I’m able to remove oil filter without the mess, big difference. Awesome tool
Cons
  • Handle cracked after first use. Still works but poor design.

Keeps filter oil from spilling.

I have two of these. One in the shop. One in the truck. Well worth the purchase. Get one or two. You’ll be glad you did. The tool may be difficult to get a grip on.

Pros
  • Not required to do your oil change (Ram 3500, 6.7L diesel) but it does make it easier and less messy.
Cons
  • The tool may be difficult to get a grip on

If you deal with Cummins oil changes, buy it

Cummins aren't the cleanest of oil changes to do. And now the somewhat newer models with the completely blocked off crossmember are super dumb. Thanks for the "drain hole" Mopar, but it's still wack. This tool came in last night, I used it for the first time today, and it is a got dang game changer. Not only did I not spill a drop of the used, super staining, black as can be oil, I was able to fully prime the filter with fresh oil, put the tool on, and still got the filter in there with no…

Pros
  • THAT DOES ITS JOB. KEEPS THE OIL CHANGE ON THE CUMMINS JUST A BIT CLEANER. GLAD I GOT IT.
Cons
  • The tool may have a high failure rate

An absolute must have!

I bought this on a recommendation from a friend who has the same model Ram truck that I have. It was a godsend for not only plugging the oil filter to remove it but also for holding onto the oil filter while extracting it from the tiny space through the fender well.

Pros
  • Works great, inexpensive piece of equipment that makes oil change less messy.
Cons
  • T broke off before I even used it. Buy a metal one. I sent it back for a full refund.

Not for a 2001 Cummins

Works good but on my truck oil dumps out no matter what you do because of an oil like than comes into the top of the place where the filter screws on. Better to just knock a hole in the bottom and let it drain.

Pros
  • Love this product saves time and prevents messes. As an oil tech it comes in handy.
Cons
  • The tool may require additional fittings

Great product A+ for my opinion

Hi quality material . fits perfectly to allow me to change my trucks oil with minimal mess and cleanup. great pricing and also super fast shipping A++

Pros
  • It does the purpose of not spilling oil all over when changing filters
Cons
  • The tool may not be easy to use

Great tool for cutting down on the mess

Worked flawlessly. Didn’t spill 1 drop of oil out of the old filter or the new one. Very easy to use and highly recommend.Drain the oil pan first and let it sit for 30-45 minutes and the oil level will drop in the filter a couple of inches. Unscrew the filter and screw the filter plug in the filter and pull the filter out of the fender well. Replace with new prefilled filter in reverse.

Pros
  • Screws on easy, and is well made for the price.
Cons
  • The tool may not be suitable for use in extreme weather conditions
