LED bulbs run much cooler

I bought these LED bulbs to replace 20w/12v G4 halogen bulbs in under cabinet lights. These devices are from the late 90's and worked flawlessly. I've used them with manual timers and now smart plugs and they've always been reliable with bulbs lasting for years even with the light on five to six hours a day. The problem is that halogens generate heat. You can literally use them to keep a slice of pizza warm if you put it close enough to a light. The lower part of the cabinet above the lamp, as well as the dishes inside, got terribly hot. When one of the bulbs blew last week I thought I'd see what LED options are out there and was surprised to find a lot. Most of them looked like halogen bulbs, but I noticed that some reviewers mentioned that the bulb is too long to fit in some fixtures. Instead, I opted for this flat style, which seemed to offer more light output and fit into tight spaces more easily. I installed all six in three lights and the light is bright. Brighter than halogens. I'm warm in color but I'd like it warmer. Because it's so bright, I rarely use the overhead light in the kitchen, so I think it's an added saving that I wasn't expecting. Unfortunately, the new LEDs flicker. I've double checked all the bulbs to make sure they're installed correctly because they fit snugly, but it just seems to be the nature of the beast that an old fixture isn't quite compatible with today's technology. I will leave them and hope to get used to the flickering. It's not that noticeable unless you get close. I'm just glad I don't have the heat build up I've noticed with halogens and can't wait to see how that affects my light bill.
