The stand comes assembled with all parts in a nice carrying case. The inner X you see adjusts the size of the stand to fit the width of your tablet or laptop. I was able to easily reconfigure this stand for both vertical and viewing positions for my Kindle. There are two legs on the back that adjust the angle and are easy to adjust when installed. The design is not fixed, and while you can lean on it with your tablet or laptop, side or top pressure will destroy the stand. If you have multiple tablets or laptops that you want to constantly change their position, this stand is a good stand. If you really want a fixed position, there are others on the market that have an additional locking mechanism, but they aren't as convenient or portable as this one.
