Probably my favorite lens for bird and wildlife photography. After using this lens almost every day for 6 months I can say that this lens is excellent and worth the price. I actually chose Nikon because it's the cheapest (laughs) 500mm lens on the market. The autofocus is fast and responsive, and the manual override feature is great for locking on to fast-moving targets like goldencrest warblers and warblers. Also works great with my teleconverters (1.4x and 2.0 with Nikon Z7). Exit VR in sport mode and thank me later! However, this lens is far from perfect. It has trouble capturing birds in flight, randomly focusing until you miss your shots entirely. Normal VR is almost useless and makes the camera hop, so like I said above it's important to keep it in sport mode. This lens also has trouble getting sharp shots of birds in the water, but I'm not sure if this is a lens or Nikon camera issue as I had the same issue with my D850. All in all more hits than misses and I would highly recommend this lens to anyone looking to get into bird or wildlife photography who doesn't want to take out a second mortgage to buy a prime telephoto lens.
