Much better than expected!

I took the risk of buying this but I'm glad I did. Some reviews suggest that the Art Tube MP V3 is noisy or poor quality, but I found the opposite to be the case. I was able to turn the gain all the way up, including the 20dB boost switch, and got plenty of quiet, clean amplification for the Shure SM7B (which is notorious for needing a lot of preamps). This may be misconfigured. and get noise. You can also get a lot of clean, noiseless amplification. The reinforcement level is important. For best results, insert it into the line input of your mixer, recorder, or interface. Use balanced cables whenever possible. With this preamp, set the levels to a good level with the audio meter and don't rely so much on the gain control on your interface. my mixer with an unbalanced cable and increased the gain on the mixer. However, this would make everything loud no matter the price. If you use proper gain cascading (which you should always do with every signal and component) this thing sounds great. I understand that you can spend a lot more money and get other lamp designs that use higher voltages and the like. After many years of research in this area, I feel like mic preamps are a bit like wine. Once you get to base quality, most of the differences will be fairly subtle, especially when working on normal settings. But some people will never be satisfied with a $20 bottle of wine, and some people will just never be satisfied with a cheaper preamp. Remember that it's almost like a religion when people talk about preamps online or signal that they are real professionals who know what real quality is and are part of the club. If you doubt it, just try it. You will probably like it.
