Great recording tool.

EDITED: This is an amazing tool. All it basically does is insert a tube into your signal chain. But if you do it right, boy, what a difference a whistle can make. In a word: warm. FOR BETTER RESULTS: 1. Replaced the standard Chinese tube with the Slovak J/J 12AX7 - a noticeable improvement to my ears.2. Power your signal circuit with an isolation transformer. This reduces the ground loop background and is of great importance. (Make sure you have an [800mA * 9VAC] connection.) For live…

Much better than expected!

I took the risk of buying this but I'm glad I did. Some reviews suggest that the Art Tube MP V3 is noisy or poor quality, but I found the opposite to be the case. I was able to turn the gain all the way up, including the 20dB boost switch, and got plenty of quiet, clean amplification for the Shure SM7B (which is notorious for needing a lot of preamps). This may be misconfigured. and get noise. You can also get a lot of clean, noiseless amplification. The reinforcement level is important. For…

I have an MXL Revelation tube mic that I use primarily for vocals and it works perfectly. It has a tube and produces a tube sound that some of us enjoy when singing. I also have a box full of Shure Beta 58A microphones, some of which I have used for over 40 years. You can drive nails with them and they will still work. I'm used to the vocal…

The sounds of the 1950s? More or less

In the 1950's when tubes and transformers existed, bandwidth was limited, distortion was always present and compressors were more of an automatic gain control with a release time of 5-10 seconds. The equalizer was rudimentary and passive. This little box, believe it or not, pretty much does everything for you today. The Tab V76 (aka Abbey Road Red) tube preamp differed from this circuit by using a higher plate voltage and input and output transformers. They also cost $4,000. This circuit uses…
