
I've had a nifty 6 cup rice cooker with an aluminum pot for years, but I wanted to cook more for cooking. Read lots of reviews before investing in them. Pros: - It makes excellent rice. Serious. Never burned underneath. Basmati rice? Nice and fluffy. Suchi rice? Nice and sticky. Put a pack of Vigo yellow rice and chicken broth? The best yellow rice we have ever had. It has a steamer basket for cooking vegetables or similar. Combined with a decent size, you can kill two birds with one stone while cooking rice and vegetables at the same time.- It is very easy to cook rice. You press a button and it boils. It's hard to screw up. The pot is easy to clean. It has a non-stick coating, so we usually only soak it when needed and then gently clean it. There is no need for scraping. In fact, we try not to scratch it as some reviews have reported scratches on the non-stick coating due to carelessness. Cons: - It takes 30 minutes to cook large batches of rice. This surprised me because I thought 20 minutes was the norm, but cooking 4 cups of (dry) rice seems to take 30 minutes or more. - Price. Not expensive compared to other serious rice cookers, but it's an investment compared to these small, nifty rice cookers that hold up to 3 cups of dry rice. If you use it very infrequently, this may be overkill.
