These little radios are amazing! And at a really great price. The frequencies that come with it are not legal frequencies and you can be fined $10,000 plus possible jail time if you find that you are using illegal frequencies in the US. As a licensed GMRS radio operator, a friend of mine programmed them in FRS frequencies. Fortunately, these radios are considered legal when using FRS/GMRS frequencies, as the FCC has now allowed FRS frequencies to transmit up to 2W (previously you could only transmit 0.5W on FRS) - without a license! can transmit on GMRS frequencies up to 10W (previously 5W) - license required. You can technically program these radios to almost any radio frequency, even use operating frequencies - a license and technical coordinator are required to program them.
