Android TV resolution - not HD quality

So I got my device on Monday, set it up and installed YouTube TV and everything worked fine. The picture quality was a bit poor so I checked the settings and it was 480p, I tried changing the resolution but no luck. I did a little research and was frustrated to find that YouTube TV Netflix etc doesn't let you change the resolution in the app as this Android TV box isn't certified by them for anything over 480p. I ended up buying an nvidia shield tv that runs at HD resolution.
