Review on Intex Quick Fill Electric 110 120 38 9CFM by Nick Narvasa

Ignore the skeptics. This is the air pump you've been looking for.

After reading the hilarious 4Jax review above I was ready to buy it just for fun. After also reading the negative reviews about the swivel nozzle and the noise, I decided to buy it. Here's why: 1. Great price, great performance. It inflates inflatables more than TWO times faster than most other air pumps that are only marginally cheaper (38 cfm vs. 14-21 cfm). I'm impatient and would rather play than blow up my bouncy castles. By the way, don't be fooled by the "high pressure" specifications of 460 l/min (liters per minute). 100 liters is 3.5 cubic feet. That's 16 CFM, which is less than HALF what this pump is capable of.2. There's a hose! There are no others in this price range. Even though the swivel connector doesn't work and I can't use a hose, it still works great without a hose and BLASTS TWICE MORE AIR than the competition. Hose Bonus.3. If loud, then what? I probably won't run it next to sleeping babies.4. It runs off a real 110V outlet that men use, not a flimsy 12V car adapter or ridiculous rechargeable batteries. Yes, I tried a 12 volt battery operated battery pack before buying this one and I can't think of a better exercise in desperation than using one of these little monsters that have enough charge to power a small inflatable boat or two to blow up if you want. When it runs out you need a car to start it via the 12v adapter because the sadist who invented it thought the included adapter was only used to charge the battery and not start the pump should. Instead of inflating it from the comfort of my living room, I have to lug it into the garage and power it up with a 12v adapter with that short cord that must have been designed by the same sadist mentioned above. Brilliant. If you're going on a long trip to power a few toys and charge a few things from your car (laptops, tablets, game consoles, etc.) you should have a suitable 110V inverter, a cheap multi-plug and an extension cord. You can get a decent 150W inverter for around $20. I can carry a group of teenagers and charge all of their mobile devices at the same time. Special 12 volt devices for cars are for people who love pain. Needless to say, the Intex AC Electric pump will run from a household outlet or car outlet if you spend about $20 to purchase a very useful inverter. I hope this will save some poor souls from many disappointments to come. Conclusion: I figured that even if a few things didn't work as well as I had hoped, it was still more than worth the price, so I bought it. Guess what ? When it arrived quickly it worked perfectly. I scared a couple of small children (my own) with a huge blast of air as they stood 10ft from me. They fled in panic from the wind and noise. The noise isn't as annoying as some people claim, but my toddler didn't like it. I immediately tried the twist lock hose to see if it was as problematic as some people have claimed. It worked great. I made sure the notches lined up with the marks on the nozzle so I didn't accidentally tear off the plastic notches. It's plastic, after all, and if overtightened, it's likely to break, which incidentally raises the question of the "mechanical feel" described by Robert Pirsig in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (Chapter 26). A good mechanic can tell by touch when he (or she) is over tightening a bolt or joint. Different materials react differently. Steel and iron can take a lot of abuse. Aluminum and lead, not so much. There is very little plastic. If you try to connect a part, screw it in, or screw something in and it resists your efforts, stop, look closely at the part and see what might be causing the problem, and then carefully try again. Breaking things is no fun. I've inflated a few things with the Intex Quick-Fill AC Electric Air Pump and was amazed at how quickly it fills up. I can't confirm that it puts out 38.9cfm of air, but it fills up much faster than any other pump I've tried, except for the expensive air compressor. I had no problems with the hose, I was clean and tidy when I connected it. The hose is incredibly comfortable. I was concerned about burning out the motor when I filled a large, 6 foot tall inflatable display case with habanero sauce using an incredibly small valve, but it worked great. As it should be, the engine got a little warm after a few minutes of continuous operation, but did its job without any fuss. If I need to take it with me on the road to inflate the rafting boat, like everyone else, I have an inverter in the car. Great product for the price.
