You only need to buy and use once. Think of it like a subscription service that needs to be renewed twice a year. For me it started to get annoying after 2 years of double clicking, but I use it on a second computer. If I used it on my main machine it would take 1/4 the time or less. I've tried fighting this, but right now it's messing up a few programs because I'm double-clicking in a way I can't even guess. I'll see if you can replace the microswitches with quality ones yourself, otherwise this mouse is worth the effort. I think I'll try JellyComb if all else fails. All to avoid subscribing to a mouse, since Logitech cannot use quality components. I think something went wrong, the mouse has a hole where the ball is where dust and hair can get in. So I think the double click was caused by a hair stuck in the switch. Now it seems to be working again. My guess is that many mice that are still working were thrown away because of this design. Try to clean it up before you do anything that costs money.
