Good Tool for Hyperactivity

I bought this for my kindergartner who is now in 2nd grade. My son struggles with sensory issues and hyperactivity. This wobble cushion really helped my active son when he was expected to stay in his chair and pay attention. His kindergarten teacher said when she would notice he was starting to misbehave she would give him the wobble cushion and it would help redirect his hyperactivity to wobbling on his chair. In 1st grade he didn't use it as much, but I believe it was because the teacher was not open to him using it. He's in 2nd grade now and he has been using it every day and the teacher said it does help, although it doesn't fit under his desk very well.I gave this 3 stars because it's not the perfect solution to help with hyperactivity in every situation, I don't believe there is one. This wobble cushion is a good tool to add to your tool box to help your child work through his hyperactivity and stress during school. It will take more tools than just this one to really help my child but I will keep this available for him as long as he will use it.PROSsmalleasy to inflatethick rubbertwo different textureseasy to transport to schooleasy to store at schooldoes help with hyperactivityCONScan be used as a toy and not a tool, it will take practice and trainingmay not fit under the desk as well if there isn't much space in-between the chair and the bottom of the desk to begin withAdded October 2015:Further explanation for my 3 Star Rating. My son cannot sit on his cushion and still be able to have his legs under his school desk. He has told me that he doesn't like to sit on it at his desk for that very reason. I had him show me what was bothering him and when he sits on it he has to put his legs to one side in front of his desk and then turn his body towards his desk. One of the main uses of this cushion is to be able to use it on your chair while your legs are under a desk or table. I checked the legs on his desk and on his chair to see if I could adjust them so he could use his cushion comfortably but they can't. I'm sure this will not be the case with every school desk in every school. My son keeps his cushion in his desk until he is asked to sit on the floor and that's where he will use it. It has helped him a lot in that regard, but with him, he has need for better self-management while on the cushion. At times his cushion is used as a toy and it causes him to have way too much fun squirming around and knocking himself over. It would be nice for my son to be able to use his cushion while he is sitting at his desk because he spends a lot more time at his desk during school versus sitting on the floor. My 4th grader also has one of these cushions, in gray, but she refuses to use it because she does not like the texture.Even with these experiences, I still say this is a good tool to have in your active child's toolbox.

Pros
  • Ideal for individuals with autism or sensory processing disorder, as the cushion can help with sensory regulation and body awareness.
Cons
  • Limited color options
