Strong bug spray smell out of the box (open in a well ventilated area) It sheds, but mine was not as bad as some others have experienced. I washed it twice and the smell is still there but not as bad, hopefully it'll fade with time. For $50 bucks it's not a bad wool blanket, but if wanting something for outdoors a milsurp blanket will work better and be cheaper. If you are looking for a soft and fuzzy blanket for the indoors, this probably isn't it. Be prepared to put some time and effort into making this blanket useful.
