I have computer speakers that output sound from my TV. However, computer speakers don't have volume controls, and I used to have to get up from my seat to turn the volume up or down. I bought this product to place between my TV and computer speakers and with the help of long cables I have placed it right where I sit to watch TV. Now I don't have to get up to change the volume and it works great. This item seems perfect for my needs, but I noticed two things. These things are not a problem for me. However, depending on how someone else wants to use it, it can be important to know what. 1.) The sound still plays when the volume is completely turned off. It's VERY VERY weak, but if the input is loud enough you can still hear it with the volume knob turned all the way up (especially if you're using headphones). There is no real mute. 2.) The first 5% or so on this knob comes out as a mono sound. Once you get above 5% or so, the sound will come through from both sides. Again, these things aren't a problem for me, and I suppose it won't bother most people. But depending on the setup and use you have in mind, you might want to take care of it.
