Review on πŸ”ˆ Uniden (BC15) Bearcat 15-Watt External Communications Speaker - Durable Rugged Design, Ideal for Enhancing Uniden Scanners, CB Radios, and Other Communications Receivers, in Sleek Black by Jeremy Jackz

Decent speaker with some design flaws NOT amplified

This is a properly designed speaker for good frequency response and speech clarity. The listing indicates it is reinforced ie requires a separate power supply which is NOT (model BC15). It is fully controlled by the radio it is connected to. Two design flaws: 1) There is no strain relief on the speaker cable as it exits the cabinet. In 15 months of exclusive use in the doors as part of my ham radio shack I have had to unsolder the speaker wires from the circuit board so I can cut the cracked and exposed wires right where the wires exit the case. . This does not qualify it as a "strong and durable design" in my book. The fact that the plastic ripped so early in use tells me it's cheap quality. 2) The mounting bracket attachment points are not positioned properly, allowing it to maintain its center of gravity (unless you intend to permanently mount the bracket). surface) and the device wants to fall face down. Yes, the mount is designed for installation, but if you work in different rooms of the house, the mount is not suitable for self-placement. A small but significant problem. Unlike some noise-cancelling speakers, this isn't just a high-resistance switch that only muffles the overall sound, it actually cleans up the sound by slightly reducing the volume. Good speaker, just needs some tweaking.

Pros
  • If your walkie-talkie is installed in a hard-to-reach place, the 3.5mm right-angle audio jack on the BC15 makes it easy to connect to the radio.
