I really only needed translucent embossing powder and the finish (glossy or matte) wasn't that important BUT I chose matte, just to see what it looked like. I've seen other reviews that said this embossing powder was just as shiny as the regular one and I found that it was at times. During my experiments I have found that this powder stays matte IF you are very careful how long you apply the heat. You should try to remove the heat SECONDLY as the powder melts and NOT even quickly run the heating tool over the already melted powder. Just a second too long under the influence of heat will transform your beautiful matte embossing into a glossy one. The good news is that depending on how long you heat this stuff, you can get a shimmery transparent powder and a matte transparent powder all in one. Anyway, I'm happy with it, really. That's why I still give it five stars. :)
