Review on Samsonite Tectonic PFT Laptop Backpack 17-Inch: Stylish Black/Red Design by Denise Francis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I've come to my senses

***UPDATE***I have updated my review at the bottom of the original review.**** *** ***** First let me say that from my understanding the straps and the part of the backpack that touches your back is the back of the bag and the logo for everyone to see is the front. This terminology can prevent misunderstandings during the review. If you're just looking for a list of pros and cons, read the end of my review. I ordered this backpack to replace the Adidas Ridgemont backpack because the Ridgemot started giving me a nice hard chafing from not holding its shape and the bottom rubbing against my back. Before all of this, I was trying to find a backpack that would replace my work backpack and take it with me when my band played out of state. So I've compiled a list of my requirements, in order of most important to least important: - a very large capacity (at least 2000 cubic inches) so I can fit a laptop, portable charger, tablet, cables and an exercise pad a pair drumsticks. (I play drums in a band), clothes, a towel and a shaving kit, and there's room for everything else. - Zippers that can hold the lock of the suitcase. handle on top. - Pockets for laptop and tablet. - Decent price-performance ratio.-Loops on the front or on the shoulder straps for attaching an IEM case.-Side pocket for a water bottle or other drink.-Various additional pockets and holders for accessories (cords), handles, etc.).- WITHOUT WHEELS. I don't need wheels on my backpack. That's why they have belts. Before I decided on this particular backpack, I did a lot of research. I looked at video reviews, looked for sizes and pictures wherever I could find information. Here's a list of backpacks I considered and why this backpack was my final decision: Targus Demolition (I've read reviews of the handle breaking off on this backpack. With so many things I want to pack in a backpack , this was unacceptable and also lacked large pockets) - Targus Drifter II (I didn't have enough double zips to secure this backpack with luggage locks and make sure all my stuff was locked and there wasn't enough room for everything I wanted to hold onto. ) - Oakley Kitchen Sink (The name of this backpack drew my attention to this, but this backpack really doesn't have enough room for what I need it for, and the price for a backpack with such a small capacity was ridiculous .Paying quite a lot for unnecessary )- Ogio Renegade RSS (Again, there weren't enough double zips for all the pockets so I could not secure with luggage locks) - Swissgear Scansmart (there wasn't enough room in the backpack and the laptop bag was impractical for my over use.) - Thule Crossover (for o much 1 zip compartment and not enough space for the price.) - Jansport Odessey ( doesn't seem like much to hang a strap on.) - North Face router (there was no top handle pillow or padding. Just one strap that didn't look quite as strong.) - Adidas Ridgemont (My decision fell on the Adidas Ridgemont and Samsonite Luggage Tectonic when ruling out the others. I ended up buying the Ridgemont first, but like I said, it holds up not its shape, the sound it makes when moving is very similar to the sound it makes when moving a large tarpaulin, there were not enough pockets and I had to return it.) After all the thought and the return of the Adidas Ridgemont Backpack, I received the Tectonic backpack from Samsonite Luggage and when it arrived I immediately saw the pros and cons. Here's what I found. Benefits: - LIFETIME WARRANTY. (This is very important for your backpack to make it last as long as possible). - Lots of pockets to store most of my accessories. - well-designed suspension on the shoulders. - double zips on most pockets and luggage loops at the end of each zip - 2 side pockets for drinks bottles - laptop and tablet pocket - loops on the front and on the straps - soft mesh back for good air circulation - very high quality material u zipper with a very hard grip at the top. Cons: - Space. Obviously 2200 square inches isn't enough to fit everything I need to carry in this one. This backpack has one major flaw that hasn't been pointed out in any of the reviews I've read. Upper headphone pocket as seen in the photo. However, the bag does not have its own place on the bag, but takes up space in the large central compartment, making it difficult to pack clothes or shaving gear. - No convenient pocket for laptop cords. I use the pocket in the hardware compartment for USB cables, tools and an external battery. This way my laptop's cable fits loosely and openly into one of the side pockets designed for bottles, so everyone can easily grab it. Here is a list of what I have in this backpack: Electronics:Jackery Giant powerbank, 15" laptop, 10.1" tablet, 5 USB cables of different lengths, DC/AC converter, AC-USB Charger, headphones, an external portable hard drive, 3 different computer cables to work with and my in-ear headphones attached to a loop on the front, notes, markers and a small roll of tape. Yes, that's a lot. But I have yet to try to fit clothes and a shaving kit into this thing and it's almost stuffed to the brim. I want this too. Note that I have an 8.5 x 11 grid organizer. Since it doesn't fit in the tech bay and only fits in the middle compartment, I removed all my cables and gear from it and put them in the front tech bay so I had more room for clothes. All in all I think I will keep looking for something better and will return this backpack if I find something that suits my needs. I'd really appreciate suggestions in the comments below. ***UPDATE*** I ended up leaving this backpack and taking it to a show in Houston where my band was playing just to see if I could get it to work as I couldn't find much to compare it to and time ran out. After a major reorganization, I've decided there are a few things I can leave at home when I'm out of town. Here's what I could fit in this bag: 2 markers, 2 pens, a Gridit organizer with USB cables, a hootoo portable. Router, hard drive, external battery for charging, laptop, tablet, a set of clothes (shorts, underwear, shirt, 2 pairs of socks), knife, screwdriver, Leatherman multi-tool, earphones, sunglasses, keys, drum keys, headphones, laptop charging cable, USB AC charger, DC inverter, full size shaving kit, 5X7 spiral notepad and bluetooth keyboard/case for my tablet. I ended up leaving my magazine at home because it was taking up too much space and put a roll of duct tape in my t-shirt box. All in all I took this backpack to work and ended up loving it. I have increased the stars to 5 because of the great experience I had with this bag. I still had a bit of wiggle room with all the gear I put in this bag. I just had to change something and everything worked. I recommend this bag to anyone looking for a quality travel backpack and hope my review helps.
